Process Platform Installation Role in Licensing |
|
The first step in the process of Process Platform Licensing is to register the customer with Process Platform. A customer who wishes to use Process Platform needs to register with Process Platform through an ISV. During registration, the following details are required to be furnished:
- Registered Customer name
- Registered Site name
- Password
When the above details are furnished, the customer is registered with Process Platform. The credentials given above are used by the customer when installing Process Platform.
Installation and Post-Installation
During the installation of Process Platform, the installer requires the following information from the customer:
- Registered Customer name- The unique name of the customer already registered with Process Platform
- Registered Site name- The unique name of the site, of that particular customer, for which Process Platform is being installed
- Password- The password for the registered site, as given by the customer during registration. In case the customer has not registered with Process Platform, and hence does not possess a password, this field can be left blank during installation.
If this password is provided, the installer checks the validity of the password, and if valid, obtains the License Key from the Process Platform License Service and updates the LDAP with the same. However, if the password is left blank, then the installer proceeds with installation, leaving the License Key in LDAP blank. In that case, the customer is expected to contact Process Platform License Service and obtain the License Key. Once this Key is obtained, it has to be updated in the LDAP using the License Configuration feature of the Management Console.
The configuration of a machine (Standalone or Contributor) can be changed at any point of time. This configuration is usually defined during the installation of Process Platform. However, at any point of time, a Standalone machine can be made a Contributor, or vice versa. This can be achieved through the Management Console . This tool has a License Configuration option that enables the user to change the License configuration.
Note:
- It is not recommended that the configuration be changed from Contributor to Master or vice versa.
- Every time a machine is made a Contributor machine, it is essential to go to the Management Console and specify the Master machine for the same. This ensures that the contributor machine gets registered with the master, and this facilitates automatic generation and sending of the Usage Report.
- Please note that unless a valid License Key value is entered and stored in the LDAP, the customer cannot use Process Platform.
- Every time the Process Platform License Site is contacted to obtain the License Key, an e-mail is sent to the Site Administrator with the details of the Install (i.e. the Registered Customer Name, Registered Site Name and type of install) and the License Key.
For information on types of installations, refer to Process Platform Installation Types.
